Peggy Swearingen

Upright Bass

Peggy was born in Fairfield County in South Carolina, and was married to Jimmy (Lead Vocalist for Easy Pickin's) in 1973. She began playing the piano before the age of 9, and by the age of 13 became the regular pianist at Cool Branch Baptist Church, in Blair SC of which she is still a member.

Peggy began learning to play the mandolin and fiddle in 1999. Her husband Jimmy was spending his free time picking & grinning with friends, and she decided "if you can't beat them, you've gotta join them". Peggy progressed rapidly on the fiddle, but soon focused her musical talent to the upright bass. Peggy was the original bass player for Easy Pickin's, and one of the first four original members.

Peggy has a very unique bass style unlike any other in bluegrass music, because she plays in her barefeet. Peggy is a great musician, and the best barefooted bassist around.

Jimmy makes sure to introduce her at every gig as "the best looking bass player he's ever seen".
