Steve was born in 1958 in Chester, South Carolina. His wife is Debi, and they have four children.
Steve began playing the mandolin in 1994, and based his style on that of Bill Monroe also know as the "Father of Bluegrass". Steve played for several years at the local bluegrass picking parlors, and then joined the Easy Pickin's band in 2001. Steve is one of the best mandolin players around, and his style is flavored with tradition.
Steve is not only a supurb musician, but a supurb craftsman as well. Steve is the maker of Kolbe hand-carved mandolins which are patterned after the Gibson Load Loar F-5 model. Kolbe mandolins are available with a traditional sunburst finish or a natural finish.
