Zach was born in 1990 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Zack began playing the violin at the age of 7. He was trained classically in violin at the Winthrop University conservatory of music until the age of 17 when he decided to discontinue his lessons. Zack had lost the interest in the violin until the spark was rekindled within him after hearing the Berford Brothers Band, a local bluegrass group, perform at his church.Soon after Zack began taking fiddle lessons from Woody's Music in Rock Hill right across the street from the Winthrop University conservatory of music. With his background in classical violin Zack picked up the style of traditional fiddle music fairly quickly. Nearly a year later he was playing in a band with his fiddle instructor. Zack still plays with this band, Whippoorwill, today.
Two years later it was time for Zack to start college. He enrolled at Winthrop University and is currently pursuing a degree in American History. To earn some money and work his way through college Zack applied for, and was granted, a part time job at Woody's Music; the very music store which he had begun fiddle lessons in two years ago.
Two years after that Zack met Steve Henson (Mandolin player for Easy Pickin's) when he walked into Woody's to purchase a mandolin case for his latest creation. The two hit it off and Zack's name was dropped as a possible fiddle player for Easy Pickin's. Two weeks later Zack was attending practice regularly with the Easy Pickin's Band every Wednesday night.
Zack not only plays bluegrass but is proficient in the styles of Old Time, Scottish, and Irish tradition.
